Excelsior – George H Sirois

Infinity Publishing (June 24, 2010)

Created by high school senior Matthew Peters, Excelsior – savior of faraway planet Denab IV – is becoming an Internet sensation as the main character of a popular online comic strip. But before Matthew can enjoy his burgeoning success, a beautiful older woman arrives at his school and tells him that not only is she from the planet Denab IV, but that Excelsior’s lifeforce lives within him. Now, with Excelsior’s enemies gathering, Matthew realizes he is the key to Earth’s survival and Denab IV’s salvation.

This was a science fiction story I was involved with after it was initially written. I read it and made recommendations. This story is different, it has more depth, interesting characters and a story that takes you on a whirlwind ride through suburban America and across the universe.

Excelsior is a saviour, one who has been reborn twice before and is on the cusp of coming again, but on Earth, not his native planet. And in the body of an awkward teenager, not a self assured warrior. Will Matthew make it as a super hero?

What I liked about this story is the transformation of the gawky teenager to the hero of two worlds. A physical, emotional and mental change that can only bring good. The best part about this story is that it keeps the door open for another story, and I do know that another one is in the pipeline.

While this story is aimed at young adults, if you like Science Fiction, you will enjoy this story.
