When Lilith Gray goes above ground for the first time, she hardly expects to stay there — much less be trapped on the surface with no way home.
Hunted by trackers and threatened by the infected, Lilith is on the run, desperate to return underground. Her only hope for survival lies with a taciturn werewolf with a dark agenda of his own.
Lilith’s old carefree life has been reduced to one choice:
Adapt. Or die trying.
I first read this as a web-serial a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, so when I saw that Anna was bringing it out as a novel, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And I wasn’t disappointed.
There are some changes to the original story, but they add to the depth of the action and make more sense than perhaps it did when it was a web-serial.
Lilith comes across as bratty, but by the time the story ends, she has gained more maturity, but there is still the issue of whether she will eventually make it back underground, where she would be ‘safe’.
The werewolf, Silver, is not impressed with this girl, and even less impressed with the feelings that she stirs inside of him. It is like she has cast a spell over him, so everyone assumes she is a witch. Lilith knows she isn’t a witch, but then what secrets does her DNA contain?
I enjoyed this story, and the mystery of her father and his search for her added to the mystery and suspense. I can’t wait for the next instalment of this story. (Hint hint!)
