Publisher: Kris Pearson (December 27, 2013) ASIN: B00CKF74WU

Iceberg EyesKate Pleasance is on her best behavior. Matthew McLeod is certainly not. She really needs the job he’s interviewing her for. He totally wants the unexpected candidate in his bed.

But is Kate spying for her famous father? Should Matthew trust her in the least? Join them in the beautiful New Zealand alpine resort of Queenstown, famous for its daredevil extreme sports.
Will Kate dare? And is Matthew the devil he seems to be?
Warning: Contains one tall tortured man who’s super-talented in bedrooms and boardrooms.

Kris Pearson is a wonderful NZ author, who showcases NZ cities and towns in her stories. This one was based in Queenstown, during winter no less, and focuses on Kate who has recently lost her mother and her boyfriend. In a bid to find something to take her mind off things, she applies for a job as a personal assistant. It isn’t until she arrived in Queenstown that she discovers the job involves working with a well known artist – and her cantankerous “husband”.

This story revolves around mistaken relationships – sounds odd, but when you read it, you will understand.

Another cracking good read by Kris Pearson

“I used to be a full time teacher

Fire by T G Ayer

I did the cover reveal for Fire back on 30th June for this Novel and I have since had the chance to read this novel.  (Isn’t it an amazing cover!)

Fire Front Cover aNormal people sneak out to a party and have fun. Maya Rao ends the evening by incinerating the guy who attacks her.

Nik Lucas, sexy, new in town and totally forbidden, happens to walk in on her. Normal guys would run for the hills. Nik knows a whole lot more than he’s telling.

Maya doesn’t believe the gods are real, doesn’t waste her time with mere mythology. But when gods, demons and hellhound’s become the new normal and wielding fire becomes her new skill, she must decide what it is she really believes.

Can Maya accept that normal is something she will never be because it isn’t normal to be …the Hand of Kali.

T G Ayer is Indian by birth, and has decided to make a foray into her own history and religions to come up with this wonderful story of Fire.

Maya is a character with guts.  Her parents have stepped outside of their norm and have trained her in hand to hand combat, something most Hindu families don’t believe in; Women are commodities to be traded for marriage goods.  Maya in the reincarnation of Kali, and therefore must fulfil her obligations to the gods and goddesses.   That is why her parents have prepared her, and they have prepared her well.

Nik Lucas, who is a white guy who casually turns up and has the hots for Maya turns out to be very helpful, especially when it turns out he is the son of a god.  From Earth to Hell and back.

Between Nik, Maya and Maya’s friend Jess, they manage to fight against demons and survive long enough to tell the tale.

If you are looking for a story about gods and goddesses, humans and the realms in between, then this is a story for you.

PA’s Revenge

Published by Bay Books ASIN: B007KTEF9Q

PA's revengeCassandra Lee doesn’t do emotion. Why would you want to feel anything when your son and father have died in horrific circumstances? Why would you want to do anything other than exact revenge on the man you hold responsible for the tragedy? Revenge is her only focus so she studies his business and revamps her image with the aim of becoming his PA and sabotaging his fortune.

And Dallas Mackenzie’s wealth is important to him. He’s restored his family’s fortunes after his father nearly lost everything through drink, violence and deceit. He believes he’s inherited his father’s violent temper and alcoholism and is determined not to succumb to them. He values honesty above all else and focuses on working hard and avoiding emotional attachment at any cost, even an empty life.

But empty lives can be filled–at least for a short while–and Dallas sets out to seduce Cassandra. Unfortunately seduction–and her body’s responses to this arrogant, powerful and sexy man–wasn’t something Cassandra could prepare for. She just hopes that his interest–and her resistance–will hold out long enough to ruin him…

The PA’s Revenge is Book 1 in The Mackenzies series. Book 2–The Marriage Trap–is out now. Book 3 is coming soon.

A very interesting story.  I purchased this as a group of NZ Romance Writers books, this was the first story.

I really enjoyed the character of Cassandra, a woman who lost a lot, and is after revenge from the person who perpetrated it on her family.  Her bitterness and anger is very real, but as she works with Dallas, she realises that there is another side to him, which seems to totally conflict with the image she holds of him.  Could he really have done what she thinks he has done.

Dallas has worked hard to create his business, and he doesn’t mix business with pleasure, however the no nonsense Cassandra has piqued his interest, and he can’t wait to mix all sorts of things together.

Dallas finds out that Cassandra was trying to ruin him, but she has already found out the truth, and they part, under sad circumstances, but Dallas can’t get Cassandra out of his mind, or heart.

A lovely delightful read, based in Wellington NZ.

Kiss of Snow – Nalini Singh

Published by Berkley Hardcover ISBN-10 0425242099, ISBN-13 978 0425242094

  • Kiss of Snow

Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.

Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would’ve been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.

Then Sienna changes the rules and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other’s secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight . . .

A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna’s darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home . . . and the alpha who is its heartbeat . . .

Nalini Singh was coming to our writers group to discuss world building.  So I thought I had better read one of her books.  Boy, did I pick a book!

The sexual tension alone had been swearing and cursing at the characters every time there was an interruption, or one of them pulled back.  I screamed at my book, I argued with the characters, I was so sucked into the whole story!

Nalini Singh can write a mean book, and I hope one day I could have half of her talent.

Sienna is fiesty Psy, one with a terminal condition, she could one day “implode” and kill everyone within a 1 mile radius.  What she fails to realise is that the time is coming sooner than she expected.  Sienna was a likeable character, misunderstood and unappreciated by the one man that she wants more than anything else in the world.  While he is attracted to her, he goes out of way to tell her… why?

Hawke doesn’t want a mate, he had one, and she died when he was 10 years old.  So he would never mate with another.  All he can offer Sienna is some pleasure.  I wanted to hate Hawke so much for being so self centred as far as Sienna was concerned, but I got to understand the character and what makes him tick.

On top of that, their small family group of shapeshifters is under attack from a known assailant, who will stop at nothing to obtain the land and wipe out all shapeshifters.

The story is fast paced, tension packed and totally swoon-worthy, and a highly recommended read from me.

4 great stories all in one book.  I really enjoyed reading about these stories, and most of them were all damsel in distress / hero rides in to rescue type of stories… except perhaps for Dreamweaver and Bearing All.

The men in these series of stories are all ruggedly handsome out doors type of men, all of them working one way or another with nature.  The heroines are all lovely girls who have left behind lives to restart their lives in Alaska, perhaps not expecting to be finding themselves loving men.

I enjoyed all of the stories, but I think my favourite would be Bearing All, about a spy who was trying to kill a man that she should have killed years before, but just couldn’t do it, then he betrayed her.  Turns out that he was sent to kill her too, and had done his best to try and defuse the situation.  What she fails to realise now is that he is protecting her, and loving her all over again.

Owning Arabella by Shirl Anders

Publisher: Allure Books (January 31, 2010) ASIN B0036OSBZ8

Owning ArabellaAgainst her will, Arabella is gambled by her stepfather in a card game and won by the fiercely scarred Lord Darth Peregrine. A man who believes that no woman could desire him.

Lord Peregrine holds Arabella captive to his sexual desires. He is the lord and master and she is naked to his control. In the end Lord Peregrine saves Arabella’s young brother … and he saves himself. This story is an erotic regency romance with Gothic appeal and a happily-ever-after.
Another erotica story.  I discovered Shirl Anders when I purchased her “My Lady” series, and enjoyed them very much.
Arabella stepfather uses her as collateral and he loses.  He takes Arabella back to the dark Lord Peregrine and gives her to him.  The Lord Peregrine looks at this pathetic excuse for a girl and decides that perhaps she is just what he needs.
He didn’t expect to actually want her.  But when she eventually falls for him, it takes him a while to realise that it is because of his personality, and has nothing to do with his looks.
Arabella is a lovely character, soft, gentle and terrified of this man who has blindfolded her and then uses her body.  She is innocent and naive and when she does discover what he looks like, she isn’t terrified.  She is fascinated by this man.
Lord Peregrine is a man who thinks he doesn’t deserve love.  He thinks that he can only get sexual gratification through taking it, yet he cannot take Arabella as he would like, her innocence has affected him.  And when he finally works out that she loves him, he stands up for her and protects her against the one man that could destroy them all.
A lovely whimsical gothic erotic story.
